The Passenger View: Jakarta

I'm getting used to take a motorcycle taxi or ojek (a term in Indonesian) on daily basis, these past few weeks. Four weeks, to be exact. Since I moved to this *new* office (yes, I hadn't written it here. Now you know it).

My current work schedule is longer than before, I never arrived at home before 8 p.m, 5 days a week.

I take ojek to catch up on the third last, second last, or last train home.

During the usual 30-minute journey, it showed me Jakarta's quiet moments. Where the bus shelter is often empty, office building's lights being turn off, the full+packed streets - even at 10 p.m. on a Friday, fully seated street food stalls.

At some point, it liberates me.

To just breath, enjoy the journey, wander around, look up the sky... And the lights.

It struck me that Jakarta's finest moments is best treasured by the journey on ojek.

Time is a critical point in believing this notion. Night journeys are better than journeys at 2 p.m. They give you different views and feelings, too.
